To mark Programmer’s Day, we sat down with four colleagues across different teams at Amusnet to talk openly about how careers evolve, the lessons learned along the way, and what growth really looks like in practice.
In our first conversation, Denis Bonev, Senior Software Engineer, and Yoliyan Kovachev, Head of SysOps, reflected on their distinct trajectories within the company.
Denis joined the company almost four years ago and has progressed from Junior to Senior Software Engineer, continuously building his technical expertise and taking on increasingly complex challenges.
Yoliyan’s journey has taken a different direction. He joined Amusnet eight years ago as a System Administrator, and his path evolved toward team leadership, eventually taking charge of the entire SysOps division.
Their experiences highlight a core philosophy at Amusnet: career development is shaped by the projects you own, the peers you learn from, and the initiative you take.
As Yoliyan put it: “There is no single roadmap for a career in tech. The next step often becomes visible only after you take on the next challenge.”
Our second conversation explored the transition into leadership, bringing together Dimitar Debochichki, Domain Architect in Core Division/Backbone, and Ivaylo Metodiev, Tech Leader in Database Administration.
Dimitar joined Amusnet as a trainee in 2019. Today, he is a Domain Architect, a journey that shows how significantly a role can evolve as expertise, ownership and responsibility grow over time. Ivaylo joined Amusnet over four years ago and today is a Tech Leader in Database Administration. His journey reflects how technical expertise can grow into leadership, with a growing focus on supporting others and sharing knowledge along the way.
The two discussed the shift that occurs when your impact expands beyond individual delivery. Technical excellence remains essential, but leadership adds new dimensions: strategic communication, knowledge sharing, and mentoring. Ivaylo captured that shift perfectly: “Technical expertise can make you the person people turn to. Leadership is learning how to help others find the answer too.”
