At the end of October, the Amusnet office became a little corner of Japan. The aroma of rice vinegar filled the air, the sound of cheerful conversations mixed with the rhythm of chopping boards, and everyone gathered around one mission: to dive into the magic of Japanese culture and cuisine.
Over the past years, organizing creative workshops and events has become a tradition at Amusnet. Each month brings something new to spark curiosity and connection among colleagues, from painting and cocktail-making to culinary adventures. This time, we explored the delicate art of Sushi.
Chef Nemigenchev, a true example of how passion can reshape one’s path, guided us through this delicious journey. Although he graduated in Law, his heart led him to the kitchen almost 11 years ago, and he’s never looked back. Since then, he has become a familiar face on Bulgarian television, reaching the finals of MasterChef and appearing in numerous TV culinary shows. His creativity and precision continue to inspire food lovers across the country.
During the workshop, he shared his passion, precision, and wisdom about what makes sushi such a beloved craft worldwide. He introduced us to the famous 10-10-10 rule, the perfect way to prepare the rice: boil it for 10 minutes on high heat, another 10 on medium, and finally let it rest for 10 minutes with the stove off. As simple as it sounds, mastering this balance gives sushi its soul.
From there, we discovered how each detail matters – how the fish is sliced, the texture of the rice and the quantity needed, and the gentle but firm movement of rolling the maki. Chef Nemigenchev showed us that sushi isn’t just food; it’s an art form that combines harmony, patience, and respect for every ingredient.
A total of 25 colleagues from different departments joined the workshop, each bringing their unique energy and curiosity to the table. Everyone, from developers to designers to marketers and HR specialists, shared the same joy and fascination for Japanese culture and cuisine. It was a wonderful reminder of how diverse talents and perspectives come together to create something truly special, both in and outside of work.
Of course, making sushi turned out to be a lot harder than it looks. But the laughter, teamwork, and delicious final results made it all worthwhile. By the end of the workshop, our tables were filled with colorful rolls, proud smiles, and that unmistakable feeling of shared accomplishment.
At Amusnet, every initiative like this reflects one of our core values - “We Care.” We care about our people, learning together, and finding joy in every experience we share. Whether it’s writing code, creating new games, or rolling sushi for the first time, what matters most is the inspiration we find in one another.
